52 Year Old Man Shot and Killed by Police North of Montréal (Jan. 21, 2016)

Police shot and killed a 52 year old man in Saint-Joseph-du-Lac, northwest of Montréal, during the early morning of Thursday, January 21, 2016. The man was shot at least once by police and was declared dead after being taken to hospital.

Officers from the Régie intermunicipale de police du Lac-des-Deux-Montagnes reported responding to a call involving a family dispute around 12:30 AM. The 52 year old victim was said to be holding some type of motor-driven saw, though this has not been confirmed independently.

The investigation has been handed over to the Sûreté du Québec, the Québec provincial police force. In Québec, there is no independent police review organization and cases in which officers are involved in civilian injuries or deaths are investigated by another police force.
